How to avoid becoming a casualty of “Shiny Object Syndrome”…
For any hard-core entrepreneur, the Internet offers the greatest possibility of creating generational wealth that has ever existed. But, sad to say, that potential is almost never realized.
That’s because of the absolute tidal wave of information that washes over every Internet marketer… all day… every day.
Facebook… Twitter… Pinterest… email… Google… all push a constant stream of mostly trivial and irrelevant information at us. And if you happen to be promoting a business opportunity, you’re going to become the target of just about every other marketer on the net. If you’re not careful, you can literally spend 8 hours a day just scanning today’s batch of new programs, marketing tools and how-to courses.
Now, my next statement is going to be a little controversial. But here goes…
If you’re infected with Shiny Object Syndrome… always attracted to the next new idea… or software… or business deal, then it doesn’t matter whether the business model you’re involved with is an old nag… or a million-dollar racehorse. Because you’re not going to stay focused on it long enough to make any money anyway. The statistics indicate that you’ll most likely succumb to the disease.
But there IS a 3-step program for coping with it…
Step 1 – Be honest with yourself.
Honestly think about how you spend the bulk of your time online. Are you showing symptoms? Spending time reading bizop emails… or watching YouTube videos about the next big thing?
Step 2 – Choose ONE vehicle.
If your answer to Step 1 is “Yes, I’m wasting time”… then pick one program and get signed up. The key phrase here is… pick ONE.
Step 3 – Put the blinders on.
Once you’ve chosen your path, unsubscribe from ALL the bizop email lists you’re on. And completely ignore every new deal that enters your field of vision. No exceptions.
Why?
Because it usually takes several months to get your marketing in place and optimized. And that’s true of any business. If you regularly jump ship because some new hot program just launched, you’ll never get out of startup mode.
New hot opportunities are like popcorn jumping out of an open skillet. Put a lid on it… or you’ll die a victim of Shiny Object Syndrome.
Success is never just about timing, or choosing the perfect business opportunity.
Every opportunity attracts both winners and losers. It doesn’t matter what program a winner is in… he or she will do what it takes to make it work. By the same token, a loser will find some excuse to fail… regardless of the opportunity. Talent makes it a little easier to succeed… but focus and persistence are the bottom line for success in any business.
Please don’t get mad at me for telling you the truth. But I’m sick of the get-rich-quick lies… and I feel I’ve earned the right.
Here’s why…
In 1996, I was mowing lawns in Fort Smith, Arkansas when I borrowed the money to buy my first computer. I did it for one reason – to stake my claim in the Internet gold rush I’d been hearing about. But I immediately fell victim to Shiny Object Syndrome. For the first 12 months I was online, I only spent money… jumping from program to program. By the end of that first year I had not made a single penny.
So in November I turned my computer off and sat on the porch, drinking coffee and thinking about what I’d done. The next day I unsubscribed from probably 100 bizop email lists.
I then spent the next few months totally focused on learning how to get traffic to my program. By the end of the second year I had made over a half million dollars… still working from the back bedroom of a 12 x 50 trailer house.
When I say it out loud, I realize my story sounds a lot like the standard BS floating around the Internet. But this one is true.
If you’re ready to pick ONE and put the blinders on, DLCM might be worth a look. Simple model. Proven system. One page. One focus.
Now go put a lid on that skillet.
