(About This “Get-Rich-Quick” BS…)

You’re in the “make money online” niche. And I’m willing to wager that you’re here, at least in part, because of the get-rich-quick stories that dominate this corner of the Internet.

It’s true… you CAN make a pile of money working online. But if you get sucked into the QUICK aspect of “get-rich-quick”, you’ll probably find yourself looking at every new bizop that enters your field of vision. And more than likely, you’ll die of “Shiny Object Syndrome”.

Once an addict, always an addict…

In 1996 I started hearing stories about something called the “World Wide Web”… and how it was creating overnight millionaires. Just the stuff every bizop junkie is addicted to. So I borrowed the money to buy a computer and stake my claim in this new gold rush.

It was the QUICK part that sucked me in.

I worked my butt off that first year. And I’m embarrassed to say… I literally didn’t make a penny. I’d sign up for this or that program. But before I could get anything put together to promote it, the next hotter, bigger, better deal would land in my inbox. And away I’d go again. (It’s amazing how otherwise intelligent people can throw common sense to the wind when it comes to working online.)

I spent that entire first year – December 1996 to December 1997 – in startup mode.

Totally frustrated, I took some time off and sat on my front porch, drinking coffee and trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. The conclusions I came to were really embarrassing.

My previous 35 years of being in business for myself had taught me some hard lessons. But the moment I got online, I forgot every single one of them.

I knew that you have to spend money to make money. But once I got online, I expected everything to be either free or dirt cheap.

I knew that it normally takes five years for just about any bricks-and-mortar business to show its first penny of profit. But once I got online, I became fixated with “get rich QUICK.”

In my bricks-and-mortar business it took me 10 years to develop the skills and knowledge to feel comfortable and successful. But once I got online, I was too busy chasing shiny objects to learn much of anything.

I call it “Internet Stoopid”…

It’s what happens when otherwise sensible people walk through the door of the Internet and leave their common sense on the porch.

Anyway… I decided it was time to apply real-world common sense to my online efforts. I spent one entire day cleaning the junk out of my inbox. Unsubscribing from hundreds of bizop lists is surprisingly time-consuming. Then I went through all the programs I’d joined and picked what I hoped was the best one. One being the key word.

Then I put the blinders on…

The next three months I totally focused on learning how to promote that one program.

Did it work?

For the next five years my income never dropped below $50,000 a month.

The best way to hurry is to slow down.
